From February 25th to July 26th 2009, the Musée National de la Marine in Paris is staging "Les Marins font la Mode – Sailor Chic in Paris.
"Dive into sailor style! See how, for two centuries, sailors' uniforms have influenced French fashion and society. Discover their influence on women's liberation, admire a hundred haute couture outfits by such luminaries as Chanel, Saint Laurent, Gaultier, Dior and Kenzo, see how designers have been inspired, and which personalities have adopted nautical stripes.
Over 1,000 square meters of exhibition featuring : - more than 300 artefacts and documents- 50 uniforms, insignias and accessories of the French Navy- 40 vintage garments and hats- 100 outfits and accessories from haute couture and luxury ready-to-wear- 8 audiovisual and sound animations."
