Live before you die
Denimzine går i graven. Tråkigt men sant. Jag har väl inte varit deras mest trogna läsare men sista numret missar jag inte för allt i världen! Gissa varför..

Oh those summer nights
Ja. Vad ska man säga. Hemma från Göteborg igen, men det kan inte riktigt gå in i mitt huvud att jag actually sett Social Distortion. En upplevelse jag aldrig kommer att glömma.
WCR totalt var kul. Vädret var fantastiskt, ölen dyr, det var mycket folk man kände och Göteborg överlag visade sig vara en väldigt mysig stad. Bara varit där någon gång tidigare, men måste säga att jag trvides väldigt bra.
Hann se en del andra band, men egentligen inget som stod ut så mycket att det är värt att nämna. Gogol Bordello är alltid svinkul och Suicidal Tendencies var bra. Freakshowen som utlovades var tyvärr lite av en besvikelse.
Men! Social Distortion! Vilket jävla band! Stod så klart längst fram (hade inte tänkt det egentligen men jag var tvungen till slut). Jag är precis så nöjd som jag visste att jag skulle bli, om inte mer. Mike Ness var på strålande humör och mixen av gamla och nya låtar de körde funkade väldigt bra. Versionen av Prison Bound fick mig att gråta lite. Och inramat av en fantastisk solnedgång kände man hur jävla stort det var att stå där. Nu hoppas jag att de håller sitt löfte att komma tillbaks om ett och ett halvt år.

Roliga saker:
- Screamin i år var grymt! Full hela tiden, strålande sol, fantastisk musik, goda vänner. Men helgen gick alldeles för fort.
- Jag har inom loppet av en vecka träffat två "medbloggerskor" (är det ett ord haha?). Sandy De Luxe och Little Rascal. Sjukt kul! Båda urgulliga tjejer!
- Min kompis började snacka med Bernie Dexter utan att veta vem hon var. Hon är för övrigt stor som en myra och ser rätt gammal ut. Lite besviken.
- Imorgon är det dags för Rockbåten! Inte så jätteimponerad av banden. Jag menar, gamla spillror av Misfits. Men Masshysteri ska bli kanonkul att se!
- Om exakt 3 veckor bär det av till Götet och WCR! Mike Ness here I come!

Ojojoj
Idag är det slitet.. Sa jag inte åt er att inte missa Club Killers! För er som gjorde det hoppas jag ni sitter och ångrar er för det var en fantastisk kväll! Bandet regerade som vanligt och hemlig gästsångare var ingen mindre än Thomas Pareigis från Fatboy som tillsammans med Anna Maria Espinosa gjorde en otroligt svängig version av The way we were.
Annars har jag fortfarande inte riktigt kunna smälta att Social Distortion faktiskt ska komma till Sverige. Trodde någonstans att det aldrig mer skulle hända och att man skulle bli tvungen att ta sig över till staterna för att få se dem (hade väl i och för sig inte varit helt fel).
Ska hämta ut biljetterna idag och då kommer det förhoppningsvis kännas lite mer på riktigt.
Den här kommer från skivan Live at the Roxy som släpptes 1998 och ger prov på Mike Ness storhet som artist. Shit, jag kan redan nu säga att 090625 blir den bästa dagen i mitt liv.

Are you friend or foe? Yes.
Mike Ness startade 2003 Black Kat Kustoms och är tänkt att kombinera hans passion för musik, bågar och bilar. Mer i intervjun av Cole Foster nedan...
What the hell is Black Kat Kustoms? You have talked about making cool t-shirts and stuff for a long time.
I started Black Kat Kustoms because I hated everything else, I wanted to design kustom cars, hot rods, choppers, etc., so I would have something cool to wear. I found that the only shirts I was wearing were from local speed shops. Graphic Arts was the only thing that kept me in school, I had a real passion for it. We used to make our own punk rock designs in class. We’d be the only ones anywhere to have one. I have always designed or help design the Social Distortion stuff, so I thought why not design some cool car, and bike custom culture stuff as well.
Do you think you have a queer eye?
Yes, definitely. Remember when we chopped the top on my car. When you were done, and I came back up to Salinas and thought the back of my car looked “squatty” - like someone’s kicking dog. That kept me up for nights. Then we drew sketches, and decided to lengthen the rear quarter panels. Next time, I’ll buy a hard top. I do feel that I have an eye for design, though. Call me if you need any help… 555-1212, any area code will work.
I started my shop to have a place to do my own projects and ended up making a living at it. What’s your reason?
Well, it started out as a hobby shop, a place to work on our cars, and bikes. Then I thought of actually building bikes, as well as starting a clothing line to go along with it. The thought was that the bikes could promote the clothing, or the clothing could promote the bikes. Either way, that’s what we decided to do, and we’re doing it.
Are you friend or foe?
Yes.
I know in music of whom you are “under the influence,” how about in kustom car and bike, past and present?
Well, I of course love the early Westergard style, and Barris’ early customs. I personally think the kustom scene ended around 1955. It just got kind of silly after that. Then came vans and VWs, mini trucks, etc. The Kennedy Bros and Salinas boys are my favorite present day builders. My favorite bikes are bobbers, diggers, and Bay choppers. You and Jesse James have been very kind. Indian Larry and Rico are great as well.
Are you compulsive and what trouble has it brought you?
Oh yeah. Well, I’m broke all the time because I can never just have one project going at one time, I have to have about three going. So the album just can’t seem to get finished. No wait, almost. I promise. I don’t fuck around!
When you would come to my shop and work on your Chevy for months, I told people, “Mike’s the best high school kid. I would hire him.”
Well, thanks pal. Lets see, I’m a shitty welder, I’m heavy handed with a grinder and I forget just about everything I’m taught. But I am getting better at turning a wrench.
I know you have matured in your personal life. You seem to have followed suit in your automotive as well. How?
Well, rat rods and bikes are cool, but how cool can they be if everyone has one? When we had our car club, the Lonely Kings, we wanted to have finished, painted, and upholstered cars. Elegant, sophisticated as well as mean and evil. Money is always the obstacle, but it’s no excuse for laziness - even safety, for that matter. All I can say is “When you gonna finish it?”
What are your current projects?
Finishing the ’54 Chevy…upholstery, interior lighting, last-minute stuff, etc. The electrical has a short somewhere since we air bagged it. We built a neat console for it, and I’m excited about getting it finished.
We’re also working on a frame off restoration on a ‘79 shovelhead - an over the top dresser with ape hangers. It’s a big bore with dual plug 107 cubic inches - a real tail dragger.
We’re also working on our Black Kat retro pan digger. Lookout for this one!!I’m still collecting parts for my ’32 roadster project… on going project that is. Got those Stromberg 97’s, Cole?Lastly, finishing bumpers on my ’36 Ford.

Final call!
Fan, de börjar bli lite till åren nu, rävarna i Social Distortion. De har turnerat flitigt i vinter och jag fick precis reda på att Mike Ness kommer att köra en soloturné nu i vår. Min första instinkt var direkt att boka ett flyg till New York och köpa biljett till spelningen.
Men med tatuering inbokad, resa till Spanien i maj, Roskildebiljett att köpa och lite annat skit så funkar det ju helt enkelt inte.
Min stora ångest är att de kommer att dra sig tillbaks snart och att jag missade att se Mike live när jag väl hade chansen..
